Roller-coaster ride of life

This week we have had quite a few ups and downs, we got good news one day and bad the next, luckily everything worked out in the end - lets just hope it all keeps going up from here.

Our first bit of bad news was Hera had a few set backs with her recovery, but it seems as though we are now on track.

Here we are trying to introduce Stitch to Hera in the hope that they will be friends and keep each other busy, but the Hera's cast seems to frighten poor Stitch.

Some good news - Impi came for her first swim, and did beautifully.

Lungi and Julla were more laid back and chilled with Michelle.

Impi swam unaided (except for the jacket of course). She is so brave!

Jenny brought her family for a visit to the hydro and boy did they have fun! Every one of them got wet, what a great time they had.

Riff Raff's curiosity got the better of him when he decided to take a look at the indoor pool and fell in (well tried to jump across but never made it to the other side) Apart from his dignity being slightly bruised he bounced back quickly and was fine.

All good things must come to an end and it was soon time to go home.

The end of summer is near

It looks as if summer is getting ready to leave us, a sad thought for all those sun lovers, but not everyone is feeling it - swimming is still a lot of fun for these water loving dogs.

We had a puppy come for a lesson - it was a beautiful day for swimming!

Max, a 3 month old Rottie, is about to have his first swim.

You can't beat a rub down and a cuddle after a good swim.

Hera is doing well, the typical terrier behaviour is coming out and it is getting tough to keep her in the prescribed cage rest.

We have to confine Hera to a cage to curb her exuberance.

Troy and Kallie brought two friends from P.E for a visit.

They thought it would be fun to join Troy in the pool. Michelle had her work cut out keeping them at bay.

We had a new client this week, Impi has sore elbows and stiff muscles (who wouldn't if you have Ridgebacks as your siblings)

She loved every minute of her treatment and afterwards she was completely relaxed.

This is proof that winter is making a comeback - Swallows have been gathering for the past few weeks.






UPDATE ON FUND RAISING FOR HHCU:

We would like to thank all you wonderful people who have made donations. Our goal is R8900 and to date we have raised R7500. We hope to be able to purchase the unit by the end of the month.

A rainy end to February

Over time you have seen pictures of some horses we have treated at the Highveld Horse Care Unit.

This organisation rescues abused and neglected horses and do a sterling job rehabilitating and where possible re homing these animals. For more information their website is http://www.horsecare.org/

Although we help where we can, it is not always possible to give as much time as required. The answer would be for them to have their own Photizo.
The Photizo people have offered me a unit at an excellent price and we are trying to raise the necessary funds.

Sandy and RJ came for their first visit - Sandy the LabX has hip problems at the tender age of 18 months.

RJ, the big man has shortened tendons in his right hind leg due to an old injury as a small puppy.

Sandy was not too happy with her first swim.

You can see Sandy has been brought up around horses. She was not interested in the biltong treats, but preferred carrots.

Duncan, Bryce and Prozac arriving for their weekly visit.

On Monday afternoon Diane and Mike picked up a little Fox Terrier on the side of the road, she had been hit by a car.

She has had surgery to repair a broken femur and her front leg is in a cast to stabilize an injured wrist.

Diane has named her Hera which means "the chosen one"

The dogs have been making a lot of progress this week and it has been great fun working with them.

Prozac came for one of his regular visits with Duncan and like the true Terrier he is - he soon found some trouble to get into.

Oops! Prozac fell in the pool while Duncan was swimming.

He handled it like a real champ and swam out unaided.

Back on track

This gentle two year old fillie was confiscated by the Highveld Horse Care Unit. When she was found she was harnessed to a cart and was still expected to work in this condition.

We saw her twice for Photizo therapy. The vet who works with the Horse Care Unit has now taken her to his farm so that he can attend to her daily.

Skye, Holly and Shumba are on holiday at Doggon Kennels. We went to visit them and to give Skye her weekly treatment.

The trio was happy to see us.
